Welcome to Little Literacy Librarian! My name is Heather and I am the early literacy coordinator at the Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire, Illinois.
The library has developed a large early literacy suite of programs to highlight and promote the five early literacy skills essential to arriving at kindergarten ready to learn how to read. The skills are playing, talking, reading, singing and writing. Research overwhelmingly shows that caregivers who regularly engage with their children in these five ways drastically increases the success and ease of learning to read once in school.
Since you are one of the most recent blogs to grace my reader with your presence, I nominated you for the Sunshine Blogger Award! See this post for more details: http://sincerelykaterz.wordpress.com/2014/03/24/the-salad-bowl/
